Mauling it over.

There has been a lot going on the past few days both here and at Lem's. I can't go into all of the details because other people are involved and I don't relay what is said in private like Leisure Suit Larry does. Suffice it to say that the recurring problem of the Lawnboy and his destructive impluses have come back to plague Lem's Levity in a big way.

I enjoy commenting at Lem's joint because so many of the old time commenters are hosts or commenters there. Not all of them are here. In fact when I tried to let in a few new people some took it the wrong way. I had thought about going public again but I will not do that here. There is too much that hateful and hurtful people would gleam to use against us in a Donald Sterling type way. Jokes and allusions and sides would be quoted out of context and used to batter people who are innocent. So this blog will never be public again.

However I do enjoy Lem's stuff and the fact that it is a public full access joint. I am happy to contribute to him in a small way. I would do more if he needs me to and if he wants me to. I appreciate his open door. I hope he can keep it that way.

I feel the same way. Glad this place is the way it is. While I don't always agree with how things are done, I like Lem a lot and I like his co-bloggers. I like most of his commentators.

And here in the interest of Celtic tolerance and with Bloomsday coming up shortly, are the love letters of James Joyce.

I would volunteer to put up posts at Lem's. I didn't before because I was identified as so much on one side of the argument. But I think you or I could post interesting threads if Lem needed the help.

On the other hand I could not give Little Debbie access based on her current shit stirring post at Lems.

It is a quandary.

I guess I'm in a tiny minority on this, but--except for comments where people are slimed IRL--I don't give a shit about Larry's comments at Lem's. I totally ignore all of his personal attacks on people, and I'm happy to bitch-slap him when he makes non-nasty, but incorrect, arguments. I think those two categories cover 99% of his comments. Fr. Fox, for ex., is a big boy who handles himself quite well in the trenches.

I'm much more bothered by Lem's turn to deleting entire posts & accompanying threads. That is 100% bullshit, AFAIC.

Civility happens naturally in threads about cooking and travel, but it's not the stuff of political argumentation. Insisting on it will suck the life out of any discussions where people hold strong views.

Yeah, running a blog is an extra-heavy burden when you decide to patrol every thread for civility. So if that's too much work, don't do it, IMO.

Fuck, I'm already being as goddam civil as I'm able to be.

Well I have to proclaim my very fair view of this. Nobody should be deleted. Except for Meade.

There. I couldn't have been more fair.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Chip, I do not agree with how Lem does things sometimes, I just support Lem. There is a difference.

I do not delete anything other than spam.

Trooper York said...

For a minute there I thought you said you delete sperm.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes. If you think Meade's public posts are nasty, imagine what Lem could be dealing with from both of them.

I do think starving him out should be at least attempted. WNI;PO. Winnie The Pooh. (Awesome, Chip)

I will be happy to spread the word and remind.

I agree. I'd be pissed if I were Chip A (whose post it was). I'm guessing that Meadehouse concocted some legal threat or other. I support Lem too, but deletion complicates things. Anyways, I'm falling on my non-existent sword for a while.

Darcy said...

Bruce, Meade gets exactly what he wants if you go. You are one of the more prolific contributors there.

Please think it over. Ignoring Meade (and deleting when necessary) is worth a shot.

Also, maybe Chip A. was consulted about the thread deletion. I dunno.

I've noticed a tendency, when defending Lem, there's typically a "...but..." following the defense. I don't visit there much. Once in a while out of curiosity, if something from over there is discussed at length here. So, I don't have a strong opinion of the joint. Just, for what it's worth, there's that "...but..." thing working, which hints that something isn't quite right.

Darcy said...

Well, he does keep us guessing! :)

It may well be that Chip deleted his own post. I once deleted a single comment on a thread under threat from the Althouses. But it was my own comment. It concerned my paraphrasing something Althouse had written years ago. I looked for the evidence to support my paraphrase, but couldn't find it, and so I chose to delete it. That's how they roll. This all stays here, BTW.

Let's cool off and figure out a more effective way to deal with Meade.

I still vote WNI;PO

Trooper York said...

As I understand it....Lem is dealing with some direct threats and he is rightfully concerned. Nobody busts his balls more than me but I am convinced he has big heart.

Almost as big as his liver.

Trooper York said...

I think the way to fight this is to post and just delete Meade if he steps out of line in your thread as Michael Haz does. That should work. If he gets in there for a while we should just ignore it as best as we can. Then it can get cleaned up.

Trooper York said...

I hope you make some posts Darcy. Seriously don't you have a tennis post or something. Maybe a diet post.

Hey I am groping here.

Trooper York said...

Seriously. How about a post about how an attractive woman deals with unappreciated attention.

Spinelli wants to know because it is swimsuit season.

He just bought a new speedo.

Hey, that was the gist of my Tex Avery post.

Trooper York said...

True. But I would like Darcy's perspective. We need to hear more from women. And Liberals. And Liberal women.

I didn't meant to diss your post chickie.

I was just playing off the "groping" joke.

Trooper York said...

Not that Darcy is a liberal woman.

She is a libertarian I think as are most of the gals who post here.

Darcy said...

Most all attention is appreciated at my age.

I'm not sure anybody wants to read about how hard it is for attractive women. It's like Hillary calling herself broke.

I will think of something, though.

Darcy said...

is rcommal really off the list here?

windbag said...

...how hard it is for attractive women.

How hard it is for middle aged men...let's not go there...

You can always pick out the French Canadians on the beach. They wear Speedos and have their clothing hanging over their beach umbrella.

Just to clear things up a bit...

The Bakery post was posted by me.

I would never un-post anything by you guys w/o at least consulting the poster first.

I may be crazy but I'm not that crazy ;)

I was wrong about the authorship of that post, Lem. I thought Denver -- Chip Ahoy. I was wrong.

I do a have a copy of the comments.

Yes, sadly. I'm pretty sure she announced that here a while ago. If she didn't announce it, she'd resent me saying this, but it's true and I think she was public about it.

Trooper York said...

rcommal (reader-I-am) got insulted by something I said or tweaked her about. I think it was my continual bashing of Chris Christie who is a friend of hers. But it was just more of the same of what I usually do. Like Sixty Grit and the Protestants. I learned about Protestants from my sainted Grandmother on my fathers side. She was from Belfast.

More about her and her view in the fourth book in the Joey Gallo series.

I just do what I do. Some people get pissed off. It happens. It has always happened. It will continue to happen.

Waddayagonnado?

Darcy said...

Not that she's easily pissed off or anything. lol :)

I have always liked her - have been ticked at her and frustrated by her puzzling comments, which she never explains - but have always liked her.

Lately though, she seems especially pissed. Hope all is well other than the pissedoffedness.

Trooper York said...

Hey there was more rcommal infighting over at Lem's. Even DBQ got involved. Pretty funny considering what we were talking about.

I must confess that I never know what the heck she is talking about so I never know what I did to piss her off. Other than being a dick. But hey that's me.

I gotta be me!
