More "Searchers." One of my top ten movies of all time.

Wasn't Natalie just a doll?

Plus look it's Gig Young for all you fanooks out there. Enjoy.

Actually, Cynthia Ann Parker, the woman her character is based on, was a blonde.

They could have used Pippa instead.

PS Poor Pippa, she always ended up getting killed off.

I would have abducted Natlie too if I were a Comanche war chief.

Just sayin.

Why wife's direct ancestor was abducted during the Deerfield Massacre and taken to Canada. The French and Indians murdered most of the men and marched the women and children to Canada (in the winter, in the snow). Those who did not keep up were killed. Think Baatan death march. Eventually, years later, the survivors came back. Some did not because they assimilated and maried French or Indians.

Those Puritans were less worried about family members being murdered than they were about French Jesuits converting them to Roman Catholics.

Like the Indians in most of the East, the Comanches had a population problem. They were forced to kidnap not only women, but male and female white children to try to get their birth rate up.

Cynthia Ann Parker was so prized by the Indian who took her, he divorced his other wives.

The reason?

She had three children, incredibly prolific for a Comanche woman.

Irishwomen, of course, were popping out 8 - 10 kids at a time and Dutch women in Nieuw Amsterdam racked up 10 - 13 in a family.

Which is how the West was really won.

Which is how the southwest is being won today, though the absolute numbers are scaled back somewhat.
