Michaleen Flynn: No patty-fingers, if you please. The proprieties at all times. Hold on to your hats

Lilyhammer is a pretty funny show.
I am enjoying it on Net Flicks. It is one of these neat little series that Net Flicks is producing like "Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards." Net Flicks originals that are worth the subscription price alone without any of the other stuff you get access to for the same price.
Help me out with the funny thing. Is it funny peculiar, fun to watch, or funny as in humorous in places?
We're looking for some new shows, but I don't do good with dark stuff. The Wire was too much. Justified I could handle because of the oneliners and humor that was part of the package.
Blue Bloods is ok, a tad too shallow the other way at times, but Frank saves it.
MamaM, The clip shows fish outta water which is a good premise. But that fades after awhile. I would like to know if there's comedy beyond the fish outta water.
What makes Lilyhammer S1 good is that in this particular fish-out-of-water concept, the fish shows the non-water denizens how to live apart from the nanny state.
No. We are too far inland to feel that at the coast. About 250 miles away from us...... or about 5 hours according to how we describe distance up in our area. Time, not miles.
I'm glad there were no tsunamis at this time. The Crescent City area has been hit before and it was a disaster.
I've watched the first three episodes. Finally, I can watch it and not think "Sil,: partly due to my expectations, partly from SVZ distancing himself from that role. It doesn't help that SVZ's physical appearance is so striking. Anyhow, I thought that he is solidly Frank (Giovanni, actually) instead of Sil by now.
Fish out of water gig is shallow to begin with. Trying to hit that repeatedly isn't going to carry a show very long. In the short run, it does get some good laughs. One thing that already is wearing thin is having to read so many subtitles. Again, it's hard to carry a show very long when the viewer is constantly distracted.
I was curious how Americans would be portrayed, especially given SVZ's political views, as Chip pointed out. So far, I found it amusing and entertaining enough to keep watching.
MamaM, funny as in humorous. Not dark. I watched 15 minutes of The Wire and was done.
I hate Sarah Jessica Parker, Robin Williams, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the BJ Hunnicut guy, brussel sprouts, the Boston Red Sox, commies and well, lawyers.

S1 was strongly libertarian, which surprised me given what I've seen of SVZ's political views.
S2...not so much.

I liked S1 more than S2.
I've added it to the queue.

In S2 the nanny fights back.
HBO's true detective was really good, although Matthew McConnahonnawannnaheewhatever tended to mug it up a bit too much.
I suspect he watched too much Bill Cosby as a kid.
Anyway, mostly I was glad they didn't pull that Twin Peaks BS and leave without an ending.
Hey, DBQ - did you feel that quake? How was it over your way?
@ Sixty.

I remember the Good Friday quake that hit Alaska in '64 and reading about the damage done to Crescent City by the tidal wave.
I felt the '83 Coalinga quake while in Sunnyvale, but now that I look at the map it's not as far away as I thought.
Anyway, glad it was not an issue for you.
Did you get to meet Buffy while you were in Sunnyvale?
It's the 50th anniversary of the strongest quake to ever hit North America. Alaska mag did a piece on it last issue. Incredible photos.
Troop: Sunnydale. Definitely a callback to Riverdale and the Archie gang.

Not doubt SunnyVALE. The current home of Yahoo and original home of Lockheed Martin. And future plaything of Google, Inc.
