What a Diva!

What an artist!

What a name-dropper!

What a bitch.

God, Bette was great. Watch all those Cavett segments with her. And while you're at it, watch the one with an extra-crispily baked Janis Joplin paired with Gloria Swanson. Or the one with Groucho Marx, animal handler Jim Fowler and Truman Capote. Fun times!

I found it interesting how she was talking about late night television. A low cost means of information sharing robbed her of money for her earlier performances, but also helped spread her fame (which let her get more money for future performances). Seems a lot like the things we see happening with music today.

Bette Davis' last movie was an odd made-for-TV movie written and directed by Larry Cohen ("Q", "Phone Booth", "It's Alive!") where she plays a wicked stepmother (I think that's the name of it) who has just married the chauffeur from "Hart To Hart".

She ended up having her terminal illness during that shoot, and was replaced with -- I'm not making this up -- Barbara Carrera.

Well that bodes well for a certain gardener of our acquaintance, eh.

Heh.
