The wife counts on me to give names or nicknames to all of her dress designs as we need a shorthand description to both sell it and reference it amongst ourselves. I know I told you about the "drunken flower." That is a dress that the contractor sewed sideways so the flower pattern ended up horizontal instead of vertical. I wanted to call it the Al Lieter because he was famous for having a baseball card where they used someone other guys photo and it became a big collectors item because of the mistake. But I settled on the drunken flower because it looks like the flowers had too much to drink and fell over. She hated the name and yelled at me about it but that's what she calls it now. The customers think it is cute and laugh.
This new wrap is called the "West Side Story" because it has an urban Spanish El barrio feel to it. It is a very busy print and has what looks like brownstones and little stick figures that look like they are dancing and playing the guitar. So be calling it the "West Side Story" dress we can tell a story and hope it sparks some interest.
Merchandising is all about telling a story.
