Look out for the giant hands.

Congratulations to New Yorkers on the Giants win! Since the Packers, couldn't make it to the Superbowl ( sob), I'll root for the Giants.

The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

I will be pulling out my Giants sweatshirt. ;-)

I sort of like Tom Brady, but I don't want the Pats to win.

AllenS said...

I'll have to root for the Patriots. I'm afraid that if the Giants win, we won't hear the end of it.

Well, true Allen. But Troop will be so happy!!

He usually is pretty happy, though. Hmm. Perhaps he'll buy us all a beer. ;-)

I'm on the fence as to whom I will favor in the Superbowl. I will favor whoever shows the most humility here in the coming weeks: TY or Titus.

Uh oh all of a sudden I feel Ike a traitor.

Beautiful new pic Darcy!

They might be giants, anyway.

Allie, are you flashing us some leg?

A little calf anyway, Allen.

Do calves say "moo"?

Darcy, is there only one light bulb in your closet?

Just drove through Roswell NM and bought some alien fridge magnets. Spending the night in a pleasant town in the mountains, Ruidoso NM. Going to Ruidoso Downs track/otb.

I love NM cuisine..lots of green/red chiles. Had a great green chile burger in a small town burger/burrito wagon. Ate @ a picnic table w/ the local cops. I knew it had to be good..they weren't slim!

Why do you ask, Allen? *worries* :)

Darcy said...

And thanks, Allie. I love your pic too!

I'm going to change mine back. I don't know why I did this...

@Nick

That sounds sooo good. I'm still stuck and work and hungry. :)

I think the lightings fine, Darcy. The photo looks you might be at work--filing cabinets?

Darcy said...

Yeah. Today's look, today, cl. Frazzled.

The color photo brings out your blonde. That's a good thing.

nd--Alas, you're about 3 hours south of the Museum of Nuclear Science and History, in Albuquerque. One of my faves.

Darcy, I was hoping those were library shelves behind you.

Allen, thats me at sixteen, on my way out the door to a date with my boyfriend from New York, Charlie. As I said yesterday in another thread, he hated Wisconsin, until he met me:)

Ah thanks Darcy, my sweet sixteen youth is long gone, my legs held up well though, gravity takes its toll on the rest, lol.

spinelli - I love the Land of Enchantment. Was in Big Bend National Park about 10 days ago, which was pretty great in its own right, but not quite up there with the high you get driving New Mexico.

It's frazzled legal secretary today, Chip. ;-)

@spinelli: Are you going to visit Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam? I haven't been there to see the new bridge they built to keep traffic off the dam. I'm going to read "Collosus" which is about the building of the Hoover Dam in the '30s. Gonna make a field trip there in the spring sometime.

No chickenlittle, I think I'll stay on Interstate 10 and 8, Tucson, Gila Bend, Yuma. I didn't see any aliens in Roswell but a good chance I'll see some on Interstate 8, near El Centro.

ChipS, I've been to Albq several times. We have some former FBI friends who live there. Never been to the museum but will check it out next visit.

Darcy, good food is oxygen to an Italian. My old man called pasta "oxygen for the soul."

nd, Sometimes your writing style makes me wonder if you're really Robert B. Parker.

@Nick

I like that. I am still trying to learn how to eat for "fuel" purposes, and I know pasta can be okay for that. I mostly stay away from it now, though. Mostly. I can't give it up entirely! I love it too much. :)

But on the subject of food as fuel, I went super low carb yesterday and this morning my normal 3 mile run was a struggle. I had zero energy.
I do think the lack of carbs played a role in that. (Any excuse to eat pasta would be appreciated :) )

Yes Darcy, the low carb will sap your energy if you are an athlete, especially at first. I actually got the "low carb flu" when I started strict low carbing, until my body got used to burning keytones instead of glucose. I keep my carbs at about 30 per day, sometimes up to 50.

Athletes still need to carb up before performing I think, I walk a few miles on the treadmill every day and do some exercises with light weights a few times a week. That's about it , no running.

Low carb is the way to go. My wife and I did it about a dozen years ago and it was very effective. Unfortunately, carbs are easy and quick and tempting, so getting sidetracked is always a threat.

My bro-in-law did the low carb thing at the same time, along w/ a bunch of people in his office, so we learned a lot from each other and learned how to do it right quite quickly.

A few quick things we learned:

don't read Atkins, get "Protein Power" by the Drs. Eades, a husband and wife team. They explain it way better than Atkins and don't rely on his over-the-top claims and gimmicks.

pasta is one of the biggest temptations and regrets. You can still do Italian, but replace the pasta with veggies. Cauliflower for spaghetti noodles works surprisingly well. Make lasagna with cabbage leaves instead of noodles.

Latortilla factory makes low carb tortillas. 3 per. Sort of earthy tasting, but we have hippie friends, so we're somewhat accustomed to eating things that look normal, but taste a little off.

Don't let yourself get hungry, you'll eat anything. Eat three meals a day. Once you get past two or three days, you'll have more energy than you'll know what to do with.

Get ketone testing strips from the drugstore and check to see that you're in ketosis, which is the fat-burning stage.

Drink water.

Drink water.

Drink water.

Take psyllium tablets. Extra fiber is good.

Check labels. Processed meats can actually be high in carbs.

If you plateau, binge one night or one day. Don't make up for weeks of not eating carbs, but enjoy a pizza or a case of beer or something. Then get right back on the wagon. You should start to drop again.

Thanks Windbag, good advice, I like The Paleo Primal way of eating the best, a bit higher in carbs, they allow a white potato, sweet potato and even a bit of WHITE rice, no legumes, because of the lectins.

I love this way of eating, it's been so EASY to lose those 30 pounds. I was down to my high school weight, but you know what? It doesn't look good on older women, so I allowed myself to go up 10 pounds, which I've maintained now for almost 6 months. I notice if I overdo the fruit I gain overnight, it's still fructose, albeit natural.

I NEVER eat Glutens , no bread or pasta can tempt me at this point. I do enjoy my 80% dark chocolate, which is allowed

My labs came back pretty good, my LDL was up a bit which is expected, but I had a partical size test and the LDL is the big fluffy kind, pattern A which is harmless, HDL excellent, triglycerides terrific, extremely low.

I love being in the Carnivore Club. Essentially, avoid white food (that's raaaaaaacist). No sugar, flour, rice, milk, pasta. Surprisingly, it helps your cholesterol. I was 150 in high school. Don't want to go that far. Everyone needs a little cushioning.

Bacon rant from "Grumpier Old Men."

Thanks windbag and Allie!

I do intend to keep this up. It works for me. And windbag, the "cheat nights" do work, too. I'm not sure why, but they do. So I can have a little pasta. Hehehe.

My son's b-day was this weekend, so I had a good excuse to binge. Right back to it the next day, though, and no time off from swimming laps. The best thing in the binge was the croutons in the Caesar salad. We invited a friend who makes the best dressing from scratch. Obscene quantities of garlic.

I'm afraid to eat pasta or bread now, last time I had a piece of bread, I was sicker than a dog. I'd rather binge on fruit and chocolate. Or hot buffalo wings.
