The one good thing about my diet

Is that the doctor approved filet mignon as a red meat I could eat. I have been using this amino acid thing that takes the place of soy sauce and this herb mixture called "Spike" and it makes the meat taste delicious without salt or pepper. It is wonderful.

Of course no béarnaise sauce but it is still super.

I feel like I am back on the ship.

Listen to your doctors now.

But the truth going forward is a paleo diet of meat and veggies is good and butter is just fine too. Stay away from bread, grains, sugar.

Bragg's Aminos, is it?

Cody Jarrett said...

And I could never get used to the taste of Spike. We used to have to use it because of my grandfather--my grandmother didn't allow salt at all, even for us normal people.

Spike always tasted oddly chemically to me for some reason.

Now salt on the other hand...good, good salt.

(insert homer simpson drooling clip here)

What about alcohol, Troop?

chickelit said...

That steak looks well marbled--almost like heart muscle.

You see, I look at alcohol -- I mean CH3CH2OH -- as a sort of chemical hybrid of fat, carb and water. That's why it's so useful in cooking. It can save a Hollandaise sauce which is sort of a miraculous hybrid of fat and water itself.

Ethanol is a chimerical chemical. Its "CH3CH2" half is the fatty part, made of the same as oil is. Its "OH" portion is of course the "water" portion, the miscible part that makes 80 proof blends possible. Taken together, the molecule has the generic parts of a carbohydrate but lacks sugar's specifics.

I wish I could set these thoughts to verse.

Fat, Chicks?

chickelit said...

Yes Cody. In the same way that even methane and ethane and every alkane is a fat or fat soluble. Like dissolves like.

chickelit said...

Cody, Do you realize that simple amino acid side chains like leucine, isoleucine and even alanine render their "fatty face" to an enzyme's active site?

Cody Jarrett said...

No, Chicks, I didn't realize that. Type slowly, you're treading in the part of the world I don't do well in despite wanting to.

It's fun to ask the waiter, "Is this fill-ette mig-non any good? Can I get that with onion rings? Make it well done, too. I don't see any ketchup on the table. Can you grab a bottle for me?" Wait for everyone else to order, then switch your order, saying, "I had a burger for lunch. I think I'll have something else."

OT - Hey chick, did you read about a carbon compound (not sure if that's the right term) called carbyn that was put together at some California University lab and is the strongest compound in the world?! I think it's linked carbon atoms. One atom thick! Is that even possible? But apparently they've done it.

ricpic said...

Maybe it's the term you used -- a carbon chain.

ricpic said...

Carbyne, that's its name. From a news story: Carbyne, despite being a chain of carbon atoms, has twice the strength of graphene.

ricpic said...

twice the tensile strength

twice the tensile strength

Not surprised. It's akin to linear diamond. You could snap a single chain with your fingers. A bundle of them would require superhuman strength to break.

Fascist, I know.

So, how much weight do you have to lose? I assume fish is OK too. Nothing better than smoked Salmon.

Friend of mine is in the hospital down in northern VA. Second time this week. He had a procedure done on his neck where they shaved the bone to give spinal nerves some extra room, and he picked up an infection in the hospital.

He was kinda bummed out, understandably. So I just ordered him 3 large pizzas, a white, a meat and a plain cheese. The best medicine for him won't be eating any pizza himself, but it'll be passing it around to other patients and the nurses.

Something else for someone to complain about.
Did you ever once send me a pizza?

ON the bright side, Troop--the Gints can't lose today.

So there's a "million vet march" going on in Washington. Military vets and others mad about the death benefits not being paid and the monuments being closed.

Park police and others are out with riot gear, those tank like truck things and so forth.

Illegals had a rally on the Mall the other day, no problem. Vets rally and they bring out the troops.
So to speak.

windbag, lol. A riff only folks who have worked in restaurants can truly appreciate.

Bernaise sauce is not needed to make a filet delicious. Very hot coals, seared on both sides, medium rare. Voila!

I need to lose another 20 lbs or so rc. I lost another 2 today. Now it is fat and flesh not water so it is coming off much slower but I have to keep at it.

No alcohol is the big thing. No wine for another couple of months. I was told I could have a glass of wine on Thanksgiving.

I emailed the Hawaiian shirt company to make me some shirts with druken turkeys sitting in martini glasses with the words "It's Thanksgiving Somewhere."

I think it will be a big seller.

Michael Haz said...

What are you eating? I could stand to lose 20 pounds.

Michael Haz said...

Who among us owns a truck? A Kenworth. Is it Cody?

Icepick said...

The Atkin's diet (no carbs) is great for losing weight. The problem with it (besides expense, if that is a concern) is that after a while, one really REALLY wants some fucking carbs, or people must DIE DIE DIE!

I've finished reading Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It by Gary Taubes. Pretty interesting read; not a diet book but medical research.

At the end of the book he suggests essentially the Paleo Diet - lean protein, some vegetables, a little fruit now and then, and fat.

The fat part was hard for me to understand, but his research is convincing. It depends on what kind of fat, but we need to eat it.

Taubes confirms what my cardiologist told me - refined sugar will kill you. It causes plaque to attach to your vessels.

Think of all the diet advice the wacky LPN would be spewing. Thanks to our bartender, she was given the boot.

Michael Haz said...

Shed have us following her plan - the gin diet.

Just gin. And a computer.

Icepick said...

Go on a low fat diet, and wait for the gall stones.

Icepick said...

In other good news for our host, the Jets managed to lose to a winless team.

Plus, the Jags covered!

So there may be hope for the Giants yet.

Cody Jarrett said...

Yes, Mr. Haz, I own a KW.

ndspinelli said...

Haz, lol. "Gin will make you sin."

Cody Jarrett said...

What was the spread in the Peyton/Jags game? About 3-4 touchdowns?

Icepick said...

27.5 points, when I last heard the spread on Friday. Biggest in league history, at least since they started keeping track of this stuff, which I believe was 1972.

Cody Jarrett said...

So the spread and the over/under were within a touchdown or so of each other?

rcocean said...

20 lbs should be snap for someone your size. Big men can lose weight fast. Sometimes not a good thing - in Jap prison camps they were the first to go.

MY favorite diet is a modified Paleo: Shrimp, Pork/Beef, smoked Salmon with veggies and fruit. Oatmeal for breakfast and Martini's for dinner.

OTOH, Mrs. RC is Asian-American and never gains a pound despite stuffing herself with rice and noodles.

Icepick said...

I have no idea on the over/under.

Cody Jarrett said...

54-55.

I am really eating a lot of veggies and lean meat. But in my case is no alcohol, sweets, carbs and a great deal of portion control.

I am having a great shake for breakfast with almond milk, strawberry, spinach and flax.

Then a light lunch like tuna with celery. Or mozzarella and tomato.

Then a dinner with lean meat or chicken and some veggies like peppers and onion or asparagus or the like. It is really portion control that is working for me.

Michael Haz said...

That sound pretty enjoyable.

At least you are not eating veal.

Try a little bit of creamy horse radish on each bite to give you a little kick. I do and it's nice.
